Help With Vet Fees Overseas

We all love creating happy memories with our furry friends – it’s like our favourite thing! And where’s better to do that than on holiday?
The problem is worrying about pet travel insurance or expensive vet fees overseas can prevent you from enjoying all the fun of a sun-soaked European holiday with your best four-legged friend.
Instead, take them with you and kick back, knowing that if something does go awry, your Pet Insurance from Everypaw includes vet fee cover for treatment in the EU for 90 days a year.

But imagine how much better your next getaway would be with the furriest member of the family in tow, too.

What We Won't Cover
Having vet fee cover to help when your pup or mog needs treatment on the road is great. But there are some things that we won't be able to help with:
- Vet fees for treatment of accidental injuries occurring in the first 3 days and illnesses occurring in the first 14 days of the policy.*
- Treatment for pre-existing conditions.
- Treatment without a receipt, address and contact details of the vets used.
- Claims made after your pet has spent longer than 90 days abroad within 12 months.
- Vet fee cover for travel outside of the EU.
- Replacement travel documents if they are destroyed, lost or stolen.
- Quarantine costs or claims made on pets who have not followed UK, local government or FCDO guidelines.
For more info on what is and isn’t covered in your policy, sniff out your policy documents.
*If you’ve switched to Everypaw and can prove that your previous policy was in place for more than 14 days with no gaps in your cover, then we can waive these exclusion periods.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vet Fee Cover Overseas
With our policy, you’re covered for the cost of vet fees in Europe for 90 days per year up to your policy limit for accidental injury treatment in the EU.
Of course you can! But it pays to do your research before jetting off. Make sure to check with your vet that your pet is fit to travel and has all the necessary vaccinations up to date. It also pays to review the weather forecast in your chosen destination, as some pets are susceptible to heatstroke.
Pet Passports are so 2020. Following Brexit, pet passports are no longer valid for travel from the UK to Europe. Instead, you will need to get your paws on an animal health certificate 10 days before travel.
The EU animal health certificate is an official document, issued by a vet, that allows your pup or mog to travel from the UK to the EU.
Up to 5 pets can travel on one certificate, but you need to make sure that you have a valid AHC no more than 10 days before travel.
If your pet is microchipped and up to date with their vaccination, your certificate is valid for one trip and lasts for 4 months from the issue date.
One more thing, your AHC can only be to be signed and issued by an ‘official veterinarian’ so make sure your vet has the authority.
You can still show your pampered pooch or pristine pussycat the bright lights and beaming beaches of the continent. But you will need to secure an animal health certificate 10 days before you head for the EU.
To join in on the European adventure, your furry bestie will need up to date rabies vaccinations as well as their C3 (for cats) and C5 (for dogs) shots. These will protect them against nasty diseases like:
- Rhinotracheitis
- Feline Enteritis
- Distemper
- Bordetella
- Canine influenza
- Parvovirus
- Hepatitis
- Parainfluenza
- Leptospirosis
If this is their first foreign adventure or their vaccines are out of date, you will need to head back to the vets to get them topped up at least 21 days before you jet off.
Crucially, your pup or kitty will not be able to travel for 21 days after their jabs. They also need to be more than 12 weeks old to have their rabies injection.
If you’re travelling these countries, your pet will also need a tapeworm treatment between 24 hours and 5 days before you travel:
- Norway
- Finland
- Malta
- Ireland
- Northern Ireland
