The low-down on Everypaw cat insurance polices - The Exclusions and Limitations

  • Duty to take reasonable care. You must take proper and reasonable care for your pet, including regular checkups and vaccinations as recommended by your vet.
  • Excesses. An excess applies to each condition claimed for. On our Lifetime policies, the excess is applied per condition per policy year. For third party liability claims, you’re responsible for paying the first £250 of any costs or compensation awarded. Your vet fee excess can change if your circumstances change. For example, your excess could go up or down when you move address. We will let you know what your excess change is before it is applied when you contact us to change your personal details. Also, please note when your pet reaches a certain age it will change from a defined amount to a sum that will be the greater of the defined amount or a percentage contribution.
  • Eligibility You can start your policy with Everypaw from when kitty is 8 weeks, right up to their 10th Birthday. Here’s the good news: once you’re signed up, you can continue with the insurance for the rest of your cat’s life. While covered, you must take proper and reasonable care of your pet - and of course, keep on top of those recommended checkups and vaccinations.
  • When can I claim? You can start your policy right away. Once you’re signed up, you can claim for medical conditions that first arise after 14 days from the policy start date. Cover for loss of your cat also starts after 14 days from the policy start date, and accidents are covered after 3 days from the policy start date.
  • Convalescent treatment. Let’s get you home! The cost of post-op convalescent treatment isn’t covered where the vet confirms it could have been provided by you in your home.
  • Phone a friend...Petcall’s got you covered. Night or day, Petcall lets you speak to a qualified vet nurse. As well as putting your mind at rest, Petcall can actually help to save you money. Nice!
  • Routine and elective treatment and vaccine-treatable conditions. We can’t provide cover for preventative treatment such as routine vaccinations, or for cosmetic or voluntary treatment, such as neutering for non-medical reasons. Also, don’t fall behind with your jabs! Treatment for vaccine-preventable conditions are excluded where you have failed to vaccinate.
  • The cost of transplant, prosthetic limbs and associated treatment. All of this is excluded.
  • Pre-existing conditions: these refer to any condition or symptom, or anything related to it, that you were aware of or has been noted and/or investigated by a vet before the policy start date. If you do have medical history tell us and we’ll be honest with you on what we can and can’t cover you for. Once your pet suffers from a medical condition it can become very difficult to get another insurer to offer cover for that condition. This means you could be stuck with an insurer to ensure that your pet’s pre-existing condition remains covered. So, it is important that you take the time to select your pet insurance company based not just on cost, but on other factors.
  • Dental treatment. This is normally excluded - although we can cover it where the need for treatment is down to accidental injury.
  • Policyholder’s hospitalisation. Claims for boarding fees in the event of policyholders’ hospitalisation do not apply where the said hospitalisation is as a result of alcoholism, drug abuse or self-inflicted injury or where the policyholder’s illness or accident occurred before the policy start date. Claims are also excluded where your illness first occurs or shows symptoms within 14 days of the policy start date.
  • Waiver of premium. This does not apply where your inability to work occurs during the first 30 days of cover, if you are under 18 or older than your state retirement age, if you are not in full-time employment, or if you were aware of impending unemployment at the time you took out the policy.
  • 90 days coverage for pets abroad. We will reimburse the cost of treatment your pet has received in any country included in the Pets Travel Scheme. Coverage is for a maximum of 90 days in any policy year.
