Taking the top spot is ‘Mr Disco Beef,’ a one-of-a-kind name that will make anyone smile when you call your pet in the park. It’s fun, joyous and completely unique, just like your poochy pal.
This year's winning name also features a title, which seems to be a recurring theme from the 2024 strange pet name list, with ‘Mr’, ‘Sir’, ‘Lady’, and ‘Colonel’ also being featured on the top 15 list, and ‘Lord’, ‘Mrs’ and ‘Dame’ all being among registered names.
In second place is the hil-hair-ious name, ‘Moustache’. The moustache has had a resurgence in popularity over the last two years, with celebrities such as Benson Boone, Pedro Pascal and Timothée Chalamet now sporting a fuzzy upper lip, It wasn’t the only hair-related name registered this year either, with ‘Mohawk’ also making an appearance.
Coming in third is one of the five food-related names making the list. ‘Scampi Goujon’ is clearly a tribute to someone’s favourite food. It might be one of the more unique culinary names we’ve had, but ‘Matcha’, ‘Porkchop’, ‘Ramen’, and ‘Schnitzel’ have also been adorned by our furry friends this year. With some iconic food trends coming out of 2025, we’ll have to wait and see whether ‘Dubai Chocolate’, ‘Charcuterie’ or ‘Girl Dinner’ are featured next year.
Other Names We Love
Other notable strange pet names we adore from this year's list are:
- Mary Berry - Celebrity pet names are always very popular, but this one was the cherry on top of the cake!
- Tom and Jerry - You’d be forgiven for thinking this was two animals, or at the very least, a cat. However, it was actually a rabbit that was named after the famous cat and mouse duo.
- Yoghurt - With ‘Yoghurt’ making the list this year, ‘Toast’ in 2024 and ‘Waffle House Hash Browns’ in 2023, breakfast foods are clearly a popular choice for unusual pet names.

Strange Pet Names On the Rise Again
On our voyage of discovery, we also found that online searches for ‘unique pet names’ have risen by 22% over the last three months, while ‘cool unique dog names’ have seen a 100% increase in that same time. There was a similar theme in 2023 when we went all TV & film and, the brilliantly named, Albus Dumblepaws ranked highly.
As the demand for unusual pet names grows, we want pet owners to get creative when naming their new bundles of joy.
Naming a pet is a very personal experience and is often one of the first things you do as a new pet owner. It is incredibly exciting to think of a pet’s name, but it can often be tricky to find one that suits them perfectly and stands out from the crowd.
