We already treat our pets like royalty, but more and more of us are now naming them after a member of the aristocracy too.

Naming a pet is an exciting, yet often challenging job. You want to choose a name that perfectly characterises the personality of your new best friend, but you also want it to mean something to you.

The great news is, celebrity culture can be a fantastic source of inspiration for naming your beloved pet, whether you want to honour the Royal Family, celebrate your favourite musician or simply have the opportunity to say ‘I live with [insert your favourite celebrity’s name]’.

To celebrate the 36 million pets living in UK households this World Animal Day (4th October), and to inspire people across the UK thinking about what to name their new pets, we've pulled together the UK’s top 15 favourite celebrity and royal pet names of 2025.

What are the Top 15 Celebrity and Royal Pet Names in 2025?

Analysing the registration data of dogs, cats and rabbits, we found that the UK’s most popular celebrity or royal pet name is ‘Teddy’, followed by ‘Bella’ and ‘Charles’. While ‘Charles’ remains in the top three for a second year in a row, ‘Teddy’ and ‘Bella’ have displaced ‘Winnie’ and ‘Freddie’.

Here's the complete list of 15:

12. Louis (Royal Family)

13. Ozzy (Singer)

14. Dolly (Singer)

15. Woody (Actor)

With opulent names like Lady Woofington placing highly in our list of this year's strangest pet names, it's no surprise to see that the Royal Family are still featuring highly on this list.

However, it's an inspiring figure from pop that has officially been crowned the UK’s favourite celebrity pet name of 2025. ‘Teddy’, after singer Teddy Swims.

The continued success of his smash hit Lose Control has seen him perform at the BRIT awards, win several Billboard Music Awards, and earned him a nomination for ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2025 GRAMMYs. Variations of ‘Ted’ and ‘Teddy’ were registered almost 3,000 times, more than any other celebrity.

Bella Ramsey has become a major name this year, due to their starring role as Ellie in the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us, so it’s no wonder that the second most popular celebrity pet name of 2025 is ‘Bella’. With Bella’s counterpart in The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal, becoming a high-profile A-lister and solidifying his place as a beloved pop culture icon in recent years, perhaps we’ll see ‘Pedro’ top the list next year?

Taking the final spot in the top three, ‘Charles’ remains the most popular royal name for the second year in a row. Now three years into his reign, King Charles III continues to inspire people’s pet name choices all over the country, with almost double the number of registrations for ‘Charles’ than the second most popular royal name, ‘Archie’.

Other Royal or Celeb Names We Love

Other notable celebrity and royal pet names include:

  • Bruno, after the popular musician Bruno Mars. While he’s been a fan-favourite for over a decade, he has been responsible for two of the biggest hits of recent years, Die With A Smile and APT.
  • Ozzy, celebrating music icon Ozzy Osbourne, who sadly passed away earlier this year, after performing his farewell concert in front of a sold out crowd of 42,000 people, and almost 6 million people online.
  • Woody, after actor Woody Harrelson. With The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which tells the backstory of Haymitch Abernathy (originally played by Harrelson), currently being adapted for the big screen, and the third instalment of the Now You See Me franchise coming to screens in November 2025, could Woody be even higher up the list in 2026?

Themes for Pet Names in 2025

During our diligent research we discovered some happy hunting grounds in terms of the places people found inspiration when naming their adorable friends.

  • TV and Film - Just like in 2023, a significant number of registered pet names have been inspired by fictional characters from some of the most popular blockbuster movies and TV shows of the past two years, including ‘Glinda’, ‘Elphaba’, ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Stitch’.
  • Musicians - Musicians are proving to be a huge source of inspiration for naming our furry friends in 2025, with the likes of ‘Taylor’, ‘Ariana’, ‘Beyonce’ and ‘Bowie’ all being registered. As one of the biggest stars of 2025, will we see Sabrina Carpenter-inspired names in 2026?
  • Nature - Outside of celebrities and pop culture, UK pet owners are also taking inspiration from nature, with names including ‘Bear’, ‘Bluebell’, ‘Rainbow’, ‘Sky’ and ‘Storm’.
